Support refugee women to rebuild their lives in the UK

Organisations providing services for women across London are under huge strain following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Research carried out by the Women’s Resource Centre on the Covid-19 crisis and the London women’s sector shows that lockdown measures resulted in increased levels of isolation amongst service users and exacerbated their marginalisation and disadvantage. Organisations across the women’s sector have been required to change their service delivery in response to the decline in mental health, increased risk of emotional trauma, decline in physical health, increased risk of domestic violence and increased poverty levels amongst the women they serve.

Women from refugee backgrounds often face intersecting disadvantages and are therefore at heightened vulnerability to the short and long-term negative impact of the pandemic. This makes the work we do at Bread & Roses more important than ever.

As funding is stretched further across a women’s sector struggling to meet the rapidly growing level of need, we are increasingly reliant on the support of individual donations to enable us to continue delivering our programmes and offer women a space where their sense of dignity is restored.
